Ex-Reds Player, Broadcaster Nuxhall Dies
The Associated Press is reporting the death of long-time Cincinnati Reds Broadcaster Joe Nuxhall. Nuxhall, who was the youngest player in major league history and the beloved "old left-hander" on Cincinnati Reds radio broadcasts, died late Thursday following a bout with cancer, the team said Friday. He was 79.
Nuxhall, who passed away at 10:55 p.m. ET, was admitted to Mercy Fairfield Hospital on Monday after he experienced shortness of breath and a low pulse while seeing his oncologist.
In recent years, Nuxhall was actively involved in the "Joe Nuxhall Hope Project" to build and fund a Children's Center to "serve children and young adults who face obstacles of abuse, disabilities, illness and lack of opportunity every day."
