
McCarty played 11 seasons in the major leagues and was and excellent defensive first baseman and outfielder for 7 different teams including parts of 3 seasons with the Boston Red Sox. The lefthander also appeared in 3 games as a pitcher with Boston in 2004. In May of 2005, McCarty was released by the Red Sox and decided to retire. Just over a month later, McCarty made his first of 3 guest appearances on NESN’s pre and post-game shows.
Originally from Houston, Texas, McCarty attended Stanford, University and earned a degree in economics. A first-team All-American in 1991, McCarty was named Baseball America’s College Player of the Year and was drafted in the first round, third overall by the Minnesota Twins.
