That Was One BIG Arse Production Truck!

Athens, GA (Feb 28, 2008) - My first clue that the production truck used for last night's tape delayed broadcast of the University of Florida vs. University of Georgia Men's Basketball game was no ordinary truck was the fact that it was branded "Lone Star Mobile Television" and it was BIG. Meanwhile there was no sight of the teeny truck usually used by Comcast/CSS for UGA football and basketball games.



Well it turns out that this type of mobile unit (MU), is designed to accommodate two television networks when there are crews for both home and visiting teams. Last night, the game was broadcast by both Comcast/CSS and Sun Sports. As you can see in the following image, the truck is designed and laid out to accommodate the two crews:

The home television network (Comcast/CSS) got the side of the truck with the full size switcher:


While the visiting television network (Sun Sports) got the baby size switcher:



Finally, having two networks means having two sets of talent. Broadcasting the game for Sun Sports was Larry Vettel (left) and Bill Koss:



Eye on Sports Media had to feel bad for these two. Print reporters have been crying loudly that they are getting lousy seats at games now, and it is hard for them to do their job well. Well they can cry Eye on Sports Media a river in this case. Play by Play and Color Analysts need to be able to see the whole game from court side to do their jobs in real time. Unfortunately, the Sun Sports broadcast position was relegated to the corner of one of the baselines:

Basketball season, as far as working the games, is done for me. Now I can sit back and just watch games for fun the rest of the way.
