Breaking News: Dominique Wilkins Named Analyst for Atlanta Hawks Broadcasts
Manchester, NH (Sept 30, 2008) - FSN South and SportSouth announced today that former Atlanta Hawks standout and Basketball Hall-of-Famer Dominique Wilkins will be the networks’ new Atlanta Hawks analyst. Wilkins joins play-by-play announcer Bob Rathbun for 75 Hawks telecasts on FSN South and SportSouth during the 2008-09 NBA season.
“Dominique served as our analyst on the Hawks LIVE post-game show last season and demonstrated an exceptional natural talent as a broadcaster and game analyst,” said Jeff Genthner, senior vice president and general manager of FSN South and SportSouth. “When the opportunity arose to move Dominique courtside, there was no doubt that he was the right person for the position and ready to move into the game broadcaster role.”
“We’re excited about Nique’s expanded role with FSN South and SportSouth,” said Michael Gearon, Jr., co-owner of the Atlanta Hawks. “He is a valued member or our organization and did a terrific job as a Hawks LIVE analyst last season. His expanded role on FSN South and SportSouth is confirmation of his extensive knowledge of the sport and the Hawks, as well as his on-air abilities.”
The ninth all-time leading scorer in NBA history, Wilkins has been the face of the Atlanta Hawks since he joined the team out of the University of Georgia in 1982. Dubbed the “Human Highlight Film,” Wilkins finished his career as the Hawks all-time leading scorer and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. Wilkins served as the Hawks LIVE analyst for FSN South and SportSouth during the 2007-08 NBA season and currently is the Vice President of Basketball for the Hawks.
“The defining years of my NBA career were spent in Atlanta, and I love Atlanta Hawks basketball,” said Wilkins. “I’m excited to move into my new role at FSN South and SportSouth and look forward to working with Bob to call the action on the court for 75 games.”
Rathbun, an Atlanta sports institution, has followed Wilkins’ career from its inception, calling play-by-play of him as a high school student in Washington, NC, a collegiate player at the University of Georgia and an NBA standout with the Hawks.
FSN South and SportSouth will televise a package of 75 Atlanta Hawks games during the 2008-09 NBA season.
