Chip Caray has not remained unemployed long. Fox Sports South/SportSouth has announced that he has joined their team as the Atlanta Braves play-by-play man. It will be interesting to see how this goes, and hopefully he can bounce back in the new position. He will have an uphill climb, as Braves fans are not reacting well on the network's Facebook page.

Here is the press release from Fox Sports South/SportSouth.

CHIP CARAY JOINS FOX SPORTS SOUTH AND SPORTSOUTH AS BRAVES PLAY-BY-PLAY ANNOUNCER

Veteran Broadcaster and Analyst Joe Simpson to Call 105 Braves’ Telecasts

FOX Sports South and SportSouth today announced that veteran broadcaster Chip Caray will be the networks’ Atlanta Braves play-by-play announcer. Caray will join analyst Joe Simpson for 105 Atlanta Braves’ games on FOX Sports South and SportSouth during the 2010 Major League Baseball season.

“Chip Caray’s baseball broadcasting pedigree and his affection for the Atlanta Braves are unmatched,” said Jeff Genthner, senior vice president and general manager of FOX Sports South and SportSouth. “On our networks, Chip will be the ‘Voice of the Braves,’ working each night with a consistent broadcast partner in Joe Simpson and calling a 105-game package for a team with which he already has a long history. Chip brings a rich historical perspective with the highest regard for the tradition of Braves baseball to our telecasts.”

The third generation in his family to work behind the microphone in Major League Baseball, Caray was the television voice of the Chicago Cubs for seven seasons before covering the Braves for Turner Sports, Peachtree TV and the Braves Radio Network from 2005-2009. He was the play-by-play announcer for the Orlando Magic for nine seasons (1989-1998) and has worked as a studio host for Fox Sports’ coverage of Major League Baseball.

"I am incredibly honored for the opportunity to call Atlanta Braves baseball on a regular basis for FOX Sports South and SportSouth,” said Chip Caray. “I couldn't imagine a better situation. I look forward to being paired up with my great friend, Joe Simpson, for an exciting season of Braves baseball in 2010 and beyond."

"The Atlanta Braves are excited to have Chip remain within the Braves family," said Derek Schiller, executive vice president of sales and marketing for the Atlanta Braves. "He has done a great job as a Braves broadcaster over the last several years and we are certain his new role with FOX Sports South and SportSouth will be welcome news to our fans."

Joining Caray, analyst Joe Simpson returns for his 16th season calling Braves’ games on FOX Sports South and SportSouth. The duo will call 105 games on the networks during the 2010 MLB season. Braves game telecasts on FOX Sports South and SportSouth are complemented with Braves LIVE, the only Braves 30-minute pre-game show and expanded post-game coverage for local game telecasts.

I enjoy Chip and Jim in the way they call the Braves games. However I do not understand the way Chip pronounces Anthony Varvaro's last name. It is spelled Varvaro. He pronounces it Vavaro. Am I missing something.
