Maribel Viteri Joins ESPN Deportes as Director of Marketing

Bristol, CT (Dec 3, 2007) - Maribel Viteri has joined ESPN Deportes as director of marketing, it was announced today by Lino Garcia, general manager, ESPN Deportes. Viteri will be based in ESPN’s New York office and will report directly to Garcia.

“We are excited to have Maribel join ESPN Deportes in this key role,” said Garcia. “Maribel brings a tremendous amount of experience to our team. Her background in marketing to Hispanics, coupled with her strategic thinking and creativity will be an invaluable asset in our effort to create greater value for our fans and partners.

In her position, Viteri will be responsible for the development and execution of consumer and trade marketing campaigns for all ESPN Deportes brands, encompassing television, radio, the internet and wireless. She will oversee strategy, creative development and production for both on-air and off-channel marketing.

Viteri joins ESPN Deportes from Diageo where for over six years, she served as multicultural marketing manager, leading overall Hispanic strategy and marketing efforts for the company’s premium brands, including Johnnie Walker, Buchanan’s De Luxe Scotch Whisky, and Smirnoff ice. While at Diageo, she led some of the most notable multicultural campaigns including Johnnie Walker’s responsible drinking” campaign “Winners always stay in control” and “United with a Purpose” a campaign aimed at facilitating homeownership opportunities for Hispanics with spokesperson Cristina Saralegui. Prior to Diageo, Viteri held several manager-level marketing positions in the carbonated soft drinks industry in her native country, Ecuador.

Viteri graduated from the University of San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Business Administration in 1995 and earned a Marketing Masters Degree from Emerson College in 2001.
