Athens, GA (Dec 14, 2007) - John Rooney is a Play-by-Play Announcer for Sports USA Radio Network. I once worked for John back in the early 1990's as his booth statistician when Charlie Dayton, then the director of media relations for the Washington Redskins, called me at home on Christmas Eve asking me if I could help out that weekend. This is his profile as published by the network.

John Rooney joined Sports USA Radio Network as a play-by-play announcer for NFL and college football games in 2002. Rooney is a nationally recognized broadcaster whose versatility has made him one of the most recognized voices in sports. He joined the St. Louis Cardinals as their lead radio voice in 2006 after spending seventeen seasons as the radio voice of the Chicago White Sox. For three years, Rooney called Fox's MLB Game of the Week on Saturday afternoons. He has worked World Series, All Star games, and was the radio voice of the NCAA basketball Final Four for ten years. Rooney also has extensive football experience with the NFL and several major college bowl games, including the Orange, Fiesta, Cotton, and Capital One Bowl. In February 2004, John was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
