Athens, GA (Mar 6, 2008) - The email here has been filled with emails from fans angry at the Fox affiliate in San Diego for not giving any coverage to the recent Winter X Games. Perhaps NBC Sports taped coverage of the Visa Snowboard Cross World Cup Saturday at 2 p.m.EST will help sooth their nerves. According to a news release from NBC Sports, the broadcast features all the competitive intensity of the men's and women's snowboard cross (SBX) finals and team snowboard cross events from Whiteface Mountain Ski Center outside Lake Placid, NY.
Top U.S. snowboard cross athletes competing include 2006 Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott (Maine), 2005 World and U.S. National champion Lindsey Jacobellis (Vt.), 2008 FIS World Cup silver medalist Shaun Palmer (Calif.) and three time X games gold medalist Nate Holland (Calif.). In addition to the individual snowboard cross events, which will determine the U.S. SBX Champion, this year's World Cup features a new event called team SBX. In team SBX, men and women are paired in two separate events, and when one teammate crosses the finish line, it triggers the start gate at the top of the mountain for the other teammate to begin. Jacobellis and Callan Chythlook-Sifsof (Alaska) pair up in the women's team SBX events, while Holland and Graham Watanabe (Idaho) team up against the men.
NBC's Pat Parnell, Todd Richards, and Tina Dixon will call the action.
