Athens, GA (Oct 18, 2008) - The Philadelphia Phillies have earned almost a week off with their 4-1 National League Championship Series (NLCS) victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The same could not be said for Phillies play-by-play man Tom McCarthy. McCarthy rejoined the Phillies broadcast team for the 2008 season, coming over after two years of New York Mets broadcasts on WFAN. With the NLCS beond him, McCarthy had to get himself ready for the Westwood One national radio broadcast of the 24-14 win by 10th-ranked Georgia (6-1, 3-1 SEC) over number 22 Vanderbilt (5-2, 3-2 SEC) in Athens, Georgia.

McCarthy was joined by 71-year old football coaching legend Bobby Ross on the Sanford Stadium press box photo deck. They did not have much choice as all of the broadcast booths were in use, and Westwood One did not decide until this past Monday to broadcast the game.

Now McCarthy gets to go home and ready himself for Game One of the World Series in either Boston, Massachusetts or St. Petersburg, Florida.
