Anonymous Comment on Awful Announcing Proves Buzz Bissinger Right

Athens, GA (Jan 14, 2009) - As much as there has been righteous indignation surrounding the Buzz Bissinger appearance on Costas Live! last April (including on this site), sometimes some idiot fool posts a comment anonymously that makes myself (and hopefully others) sick to my stomach.

Today, this happened on Awful Announcing's post about ESPN deciding to broadcast the inauguration of Barrack Obama next Tuesday:

It sure took a lot of courage for this racist idiot (please forgive my rant, but this is unforgivable) to post this comment anonymously.

I cannot encourage Brian Powell, the editor of Awful Announcing, strongly enough to remove this and similar comments from this thread/blog, and to disable anonymous comments. He should also take the time to moderate comments and leave such vile trash off of his site.

Anonymous commenting -- embraced by many media as a way to increase the dialogue and free speech -- is terrible. Long term, it will keep people from wanting to be the subject of interviews.

Sorry, but you putting it on your front page only justifies it and gives them the attention it doesn't deserve.
Just because racists are out there doesn't mean we should acknowledge it. The subhuman scum can;t say anything intelligent, why are you putting it in a far more prominent place than where it was on AA.

  1. @Mark - If we don't acknowledge it, it cannot be discussed. It is on here for that purpose and to foster dialogue about what place anonymous comments have on line at all.
