Athens, GA (Mar 20, 2009) - Gus Johnson is a hyper-ventilating, high energy announcer for CBS Sports that has a great many fans in the blogosphere, along with a fan page on Facebook.

Last weekend in Memphis, Johnson may have been trying to audition for a spot on a UFC fight card so that he could experience one of the sports he covers.

A reader of Eye on Sports Media sent us a report that Johnson was involved in a Beale Street brawl last weekend:

CBS Sports announcer Gus Johnson was back at work during last weekend's Conference-USA championship game.

But his off-court action on Beale Street early Saturday morning is getting a lot of attention.

Memphis Police say they were called to Blues City Cafe after a manager reported that Johnson refused to leave.

An employee told Action News 5 that Johnson had complained about his food and the service.

Fists flew before officers pulled him and the bar manager off the floor.

At first, Johnson reportedly refused to let go of the manager.

"He needs to show better class than that and stand up and just be a man," said a Beale Street visitor.

People on Beale said they expect more from a broadcast professional.

No charges were fired, but the management of CBS Sports cannot be too pleased that this happened. He is scheduled to call the NCAA games from Minneapolis.

It will be interesting to see what, if any, disciplinary action will be taken against Johnson.
