Finally Home from the South Carolina - Georgia Game

It has been a long 29 hours here in Athens, GA. It started last night with a high school football game (the first I have been to in 30 years or so), then an unusual cross country meet this morning, followed by a wake for a neighbor's son this afternoon, and ending with tonight's 3 hour and 55 minute marathon South Carolina - Georgia football game between the hedges at Sanford Stadium.

Needless to say, I am beat. I will write more tomorrow about the game, as well as post a couple of interviews with CBS Sports' Tony Barnhart and ESPN's Joe Schad. For now, let me throw some "By the Numbers" stuff your way from tonight's 41 -37 victory by Georgia..

1 football stadium

1 SEC Commissioner in attendance

2 SEC Opponents

2 New Years Day bowl scouts in attendance

3 radio networks

3 television networks

5 field goals kicked by South Carolina's Spencer Lanning (a school record)

24 combined penalties

37 points is the highest point total South Carolina has ever had against Georgia,

46 times the Gamecocks have lost to the Bulldogs, making the overall series record 14-46-2.

78 points scored, the most these two teams have combined for since scoring 86 points in the 1970 game.

100 yard touchdown return by Georgia's Brandon Boykin (a school record)

206 yards in penalties

235 minutes of official game time

92,746 fans in attendance, all who stayed until the very last second.

As I said, a long day filled with lots of numbers. More to come tomorrow.
