The 2009 NFL Broadcast Assignments for Week 4

The NFL may have to deal with blackouts due to the current economy, but the same economy may be a factor that is driving fans to the TV to watch games. Especially on Fox Sports for Sunday games going into week 4 of the 2009 season. Here is what they had to say in a press release issued today:

The NFL on FOX is off to its best ratings start ever thanks to a strong 11.9/26 (19.3 million viewers) for the Sunday, Sept. 27 singleheader. Sunday posted an 11.9/26 HH rating/share, a huge +37% improvement over last year's 8.7/17 on the comparable Sunday. FOX's singleheader beat both CBS's National Game (10.9/21) and NBC's Sunday Night game (10.7/17) to rank as the top-rated window of Week 3.

FOX's NFL season is off to a spectacular start. Through three weeks FOX is on a record-setting pace for both HH rating (11.2/24) and average audience (18.4 mill.). Compared to last season FOX is up by a remarkable +23% in HH rating (11.2/24 vs. 9.1/19), +27% in average audience (18.4 mill. vs. 14.5), and more than +20% across the major male demographics.

Through three weeks FOX NFL SUNDAY is averaging a 3.0/8 HH rating/share and 4.4 million viewers, up over last season on both Household rating (+3%, 2.9/8) and average audience (+5%, 4.2 mill.). FOX NFL SUNDAY's advantage over The NFL Today is greater than it was this time last year. FOX NFL SUNDAY is beating The NFL Today by +20% in Homes (3.0/8 vs. 2.5/6), and +15% in average audience (4.4 mill. vs. 3.8). This time last year those margins were +7% and +4% respectively.
The numbers are good, and college football is experiencing the same thing.

Byes: Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles
