Calling BS on Alabama's Claim of 12 National Football Championships

Alabama Football, through its media guide and other publications, is proud to tell you how they have won 12 national titles. Except there is one little problem: their math is suspect. Even worse, an Auburn fan calls them out in the video that follows after the jump.

I had tried to go through their media guide this year to see how they came up with the number, but decided life was too short. But listening to the Scott Van Pelt show on ESPN Radio this afternoon, I laughed as they built the chronology of the 12 titles. But radio can only "show" so much.

Here is the video explaining it in short form. Because it is a video, it does leave some details out, but it gives you what you need to know. If you want to read some more detail, there is a good article by a gentleman by the name of Michael Collins over on Bleacher Report.

Bama' fans should not get upset when people challenge them on this though. After all, four national titles is not too shabby. They should also look to Notre Dame's example of only "recognizing AP and Coaches Poll national championships post-1936".

Oh and one last thing. Roll Tide!
