I would like to be able to say that I imagined hearing the ESPN audio picking up some Boston Celtic using the "N" word on last night's broadcast of the NBA Finals on ABC Television. But I did not. I heard it and others did too. Surely there was enough time after they went to a commercial break to acknowledge the gaffe and apologize to the viewing audience.
Some might argue it was OK because it was a black player saying it to another black player. I do not buy that argument. If you don't use respectful language yourselves, you are setting a bad example to all of those that look up to you as a player and a role model. Oh wait, could it be that there are no role models in the NBA any more?
'Nuff said.
