College hoops image with UGA and St Bonaventure players
Athens, GA (Dec 28, 2008) - Media and Coaches Polls always like to play favorites, while some schools with exceptional starts get left in either in "Others receiving votes" or getting nothing at all. The University of Georgia (11-1) and St Bonaventure University (12-1) are on the outside looking in right now.

Tomorrow, if the University of Georgia (11-1) defeats South Carolina State (6-8), they will be starting the season at 12-1, their best start since seemingly forever, according to one news report that flashed by (and I cannot verify as game notes for tomorrow have not yet been posted). And then you have St Bonaventure at 12-1, their best start in 55 years. And that 1969-1970 team? Well they went to the Final Four, led by a little player named Bob Lanier (29.1 Pts, 16.0 Reb). Fittingly, the Bobbies finished their non-conference schedule last week against long-time Little Three foe Niagara, who finished ranked 17th in 1969-70. And what was special about that 1969-70 Niagara team that has been lost in recent times? They were coached by Frank Layden and led by a true little guy - Calvin Murphy (29.4 points).Neither Georgia or Bona are feeling Top 25 love right now, yet St John's (10-2) is at 24 in the Caches poll despite one of their two losses being to Georgia. Go figure...
