Yes, I Almost Cried During a Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Movie
Athens, GA (Jan 12, 2008) - Last night I almost cried watching a Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson movie. No, it was not because of his acting skills. No, it was not because the sports writers playing themselves portrayed themselves with stunning accuracy. It is because I am a softie for sports movies with feeling. As predictable as Disney's "The Game Plan" was for the most part, and the fact that I only went because my kids wanted to see it so badly, there was one gotcha scene that made me weepy. *for this movie, even though "Westwood One" was never said.
The second moment that almost brought me to tears was watching them all try to sing in the closing credits. But seriously, this turned out to be a much better movie than I expected and a great family film. My kids are two for two this year with movies (the other being the tremendously excellent "The Water Horse"). Just keep in mind that because it is a Disney movie, there will be ESPN product placement everywhere you turn.
And for the record, there is only one sports movie that will always have me crying not matter how many times I watch it: Something for Joey.
It's the third sports movie for McClain (The Longest Yard and a non-speaking role in The Rookie) ... I think Glazer was also in The Longest Yard (press box scenes).
