Athens, GA (Dec 8, 2008) - Let's see, Pete Rose is still banished from baseball and ineligible for the Hall of Fame because he gambled on the game. All well and good, if not really fair. But Major League Baseball holding its winter meetings in Las Vegas? Is this ironic or just plain hypocritical?

The Winter Meetings are held in cities that have either an MLB or an MILB team. A few years ago, the Meetings were held in New Orleans, where the Class-AAA Zephyrs play.

Las Vegas has a Triple-A team, the Las Vegas 51s (named for the "fictional" Area 51). There is a lot of minor league business that goes on, including a major trade show that allows clubs to set promotional nights (bats, balls, bobbleheads, etc.).
