Ee Gads! Faldo Does a No-No At Augusta!
Nick Faldo had to go and do it, didn't he? It was not as "bad" as Gary McCord saying the greens were treated with bikini wax. It was not as offensive as Bobby Clampett calling Chinese golfer Liang Wen-Chong a "chinaman" during last year's coverage of The Masters.
Ee Gads! He referred to the crowd as the "gallery" instead of the Augusta National mandated "patrons"! He very quickly caught himself though. But by the standards of the Augusta National membership and their Masters' committee, it was definitely a non-no. After the 1966 tournament, announcer Jack Whitaker was banned from broadcasts for referring to the patrons attending the playoff as a mob.
Later on Faldo said "Oh no, not at Augusta!" when a fan, oops I mean patron, screamed out "get in the hole" when Tiger Woods hit a shot.
But will that be enough to keep him from being banished next year?
