Why Andrew Magee is Playing a Nationwide Tour Event

Athens, GA (Apr 13, 2009) - In looking at this week's field for the Nationwide Tour's Athens Regional Foundation Classic, one of the names that jumped out as out of place was four-time PGA Tour winner Andrew Magee. It seemed strange to see his name in a Nationwide Tour field.

But there is a reason. According to a source close to the players, to keep his PGA Tour membership, the 46-year old Magee has to play in five events a year, and the events have to be on one tour. So Magee has a choice since he does not have a PGA Tour exemption. He can either write to each event on the PGA Tour asking for a coveted sponsor's exemption, or he can just tee it up on the Nationwide Tour five times a year.

The latter is easier, so that is why he is in the Athens Regional Foundation Classic field this week.
