2009 Bloodshot Eyeball Awards
Yes friends, it is that time of the year when we start announcing the 2009 Bloodshot Eyeball Awards, honoring excellence in sport media both old and new. Eye on Sports Media is proud to announce that the 2009 Bloodshot Eyeball Award For Best Contribution to Sport Media Dialogue goes to...
... Ken Fang, publisher of Fang's Bites, and Keith Thibault, publisher of the Sports Media Journal, for their excellent podcast series, the Sports Media Weekly.
Writing and talking about sport media is not what these two gentleman do full time. It is something they do for love of the topic. In each of the weekly podcasts, not only do they talk about current issues surrounding sport media, but they bring in industry guests to discuss various topics. Here is a sampling of some of their guests:
Art Martone, Digital Editor at CSNNE.com, the online presence of Comcast Sports Net New England, discussing how CSNNE fits into the cluttered Boston sports media landscape; his experiences as sports editor at the Providence Journal; and how CSNNE may be impacted by the impending Comcast merger with NBC. (listen here...)
Trenni Kusnierek of the MLB Network, discussing her career which has taken her from a station in Eau Claire, WI to the MLB Network. (listen here...)
Sports Illustrated Media Writer Richard Deitsch, discussing ESPN's planned launch of a 3D television channel sometime this spring, whether it’s time to take the writers away from voting for the Halls of Fame, the impact Peter Gammons will have on the MLB Network, and the end of Fox’ reign as the BCS Bowls telecaster. (listen here...)
and the list goes on.
So congratulations to Ken and Keith as the recipient of the first of the 2009 Bloodshot Eyeball Awards.
