Panthers Upset Win Over Vikings Powers NBC to Another Sunday Night Ratings Win
Tops Survivor-Samoa Finale on CBS by 69%
NEW YORK - Dec. 21, 2009 - Last night’s “NBC Sunday Night Football” was the No. 1 broadcast on Sunday night for the 13th time in 14 weeks with the Carolina Panthers 26-7 victory over Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. “SNF” was again the No. 1 show of the night in the metered markets (excludes overruns of NFL day games) on a night that faced the finale of Survivor: Samoa on CBS. Head-to-head “Sunday Night Football” out-rated Survivor by 69 percent (11.8 vs. 7.0 from 8:30-10:15 p.m. ET).
With two weeks remaining in the NFL season, “Sunday Night Football” has already equaled its total of Sunday night wins from 2008. Last season, SNF won 13 of 16 Sunday nights after winning 11 of 16 in 2007 and nine of 16 in 2006.
Last night’s game drew an overnight rating of a 12.0 and a 19 share, 22 percent lower than last year’s Giants-Cowboys Week 15 game that stands as the second-highest SNF game in history (15.4/24) but is up eight percent from the Week 15 game in 2007 (Redskins-Giants, 11.1/17).
The rating peaked from 10:30-11 p.m. ET at a 12.5/21.
