People who try to compare the television ratings between the National Football League (NFL) and Major League Baseball (MLB) like to say that MLB is Mickey Mouse compared to the NFL. Well these people tend to forget that the Mouse is pretty big, despite showing weakness tied to the economy. Now to make the Mickey Mouse title more official, Sports Business Journal (SBJ) is reporting that MLB has entered into a cross-licensing agreement with Disney.

Every day people are sharing information and news with others. It may be Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and/or some other tools. The challenge becomes embracing this paradigm and finding the best way to aggregate and present it online. One sports media organization has taken an approach with a new media mashup that is at the same time simple, elegant, and as comprehensive as they want it to be.

With that being said, Eye on Sports Media is pleased to present the 2009 Bloodshot Eyeball Award for Best New Media Mashup to...

Play NCAA Division I Hoops With One Hand? No Problem!

Kevin Laue played his freshman year of NCAA Division I basketball in relative obscurity. As a reserve center for the Manhattan Jaspers of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), the 6-11, 230 pound Laue only scored seven points over 50 minutes in 19 games this year. Nothing phenomenal there. What is great about his story is that he is following in the footsteps of former Major League Baseball pitcher Jim Abbott, playing his sport with only one hand.

Riddle me this good readers: how can a soccer game being aired on the FOX Soccer Channel as live (the "Live" bug was displaying on the screen) also be reported as completed on the ESPN SoccerNet LiveScore page? That is a question a reader asked this morning.

When watching a live basketball game, one of the frustrations fans face is not knowing the on-going stats for individual players who are not in the game or who are waiting at the scorer's table to enter the game (unless of course they have a wireless device). At this week's 2010 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Women's Basketball Tournament at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth, GA, there is an interesting solution: display the stats on the scorer's table video display. Unfortunately, this is only a 25% solution at best.

STUMPED! ESPN's Howie Schwab Takes It On the Chin at ESPN the Weekend

Howie Schwab of ESPN is the hero of many sport trivia geeks. He took his love of sport minutia and turned it into a career at ESPN. Many people know this ESPN producer from "Stump the Schwab" show, a show where wannabee Schwabbies take their chance to out-geek him. Usually they lose. Schwab was in Orlando this past weekend for the 2010 edition of "ESPN the Weekend," and an all-star version of his show was part of the schedule.

NBC Sports Deserved Some, But Not All, Olympic Sized Criticism

After watching just over two weeks of the 2010 Winter Olympics on NBC Sports, it is nice to get back to some sense of normalcy. It is also good to take a couple of days to reflect on the Vancouver Games and think about what did and did not happen via our gateway to the games: NBC Sports. And while there were a few head scratching moments during their coverage and things NBC could have done better, a lot of criticism thrown their way was not warranted.
